There’s been a lot of changes within the club over the last few months not only with the Covid-19 restrictions but also a change in how the club has come together to make Maldon Canoe Club an active vibrant space for all our current and prospective members to enjoy and become inspired about paddlesports.
It’s been great to see so many Maldon CC Paddlers out and about on various paddles over the last few weeks whilst adhering to the Government and British Canoeing’s guidance. We have seen sea kayak paddles at Bradwell, Burnham, North Fambridge/South Woodham and Southend. There’s also been lots of trips to the River Chelmer and River Stour in Suffolk. (all restricted group sizes of course)
Whilst we have been in the midst of these strange times, I think we can all agree that the changes in the club have definitely benefited all our members, who are now actively paddling from lots of different locations rather than just one river on a club night.
It’s also really positive to see the variety of groups, ages and abilities taking part – There has been 1-1 coaching sessions taking place on the Sea and local rivers, solo paddle trips, friends meeting up in small groups, family paddling trips and even seeing some of our youngest members shoot their first weirs (well done to 6 year old Seb and 9 year old Elena) Check out just some of the images our our recent adventures below👍
We have also continued our strong club links with the good guys at Bramston Canoe Club and have been on a few joint member trips. Again, we hope to hook up with our friends at Colchester CC for some private booked white water sessions at Lee Valley once restrictions are lifted – stay tuned!
If you fancy trying out something different rather than a kayak or Canoe, then keep an eye out for some coached Stand up Paddleboard sessions ran by Steve Bickerton. You’ll have to hurry up though – spaces are filling up fast!
