Farne Islands 2023

Farne /Scotland sea trip 2023

The 2023 sea trip went very well with 9 paddlers attending

The Farne islands are a group of islands off the Northumberland coast 3-8 kilometres the wildlife is fantastic with a huge amount of sea birds including Puffins .

The area can have advanced conditions with surf, strong currents, Castles  and huge cliffs. making the area well worth a visit. We also plan for contingency paddles on easier  areas as well as has many historical sites which are well worth a visit, as well as the cheviot hills for keen walkers.

Having visited this area last year we decided to do a classic paddle a few miles above the Farnes, Bass rock a huge rock 3 kilometres from the Scottish coast this did not disappoint with sightings of Dolphins , puffins ,and seals spotted in the first 15 minutes of the paddle.

Staying above the Farnes, St. Abbs head was on the agenda a great paddle which some had done last year a fantastic lifeguarded bay with classic high rocks great for rock hopping amongst the many coves and inlets. The Farne islands consist of the inner and the outer group of Islands which house lighthouses cliffs and wildlife which are truly stunning.

We camp at Beadnell bay camping and caravan club site a high standard site good showers toilets and only 50mtr from the sea where we launched and returned to on several trips, camper vans are allowed tents can have electric hook ups  memberships are worth looking at as there are good members discount. By camping you can choose if you wish to join us for the week or just a few days. There is good access to the stunning beaches car parks are free or reasonably cheap, the local town has a number of good restaurants and stores.

By choosing to paddle at this time of the year we have longer daylight hours and we get to see the puffins before they depart for other climates.

We look to repeat this as an annual Club event so look out for the next trip here.
